About David Campbell Nail
David Campbell Nail was a resident of northern Roane County, Tennessee, a son of Nicholas P. Nail and wife who had moved to western Knox County (now Roane County) and was a signer of the petitions to establish Roane County (1799, 1801). His parents may have named him after Judge David Campbell, a prominent Tennessee citizen at the time, a former Patriot in Virginia and veteran of the Revolutionary War, and a sometime resident of Roane County. (Biographies of David Campbell came be found on the Internet.).
David C. Nail was not married to Susannah Boyd Jr. but he, either by force or by mutual agreement, had intimate relations with the lady and impregnated her. He likely disappeared when Susan's father discovered the illicit relationship. Evidence of his existence is in the Last Will & Testament of Nicholas P. Nail, who listed him as one of his children. DNA evidence indicates that he or someone in the Nail family was the biological father of our ancestor Fernando Campbell Boyd (1840-1871), first child of Susannah (Susan) M. Boyd. Most likely it was David Campbell because of his age, his middle name, and his disappearance from history. ~ LCB
