About David Nathaniel Jones

Q: This is my wife's 8th great grandfather, does anyone know how he came to America?

A: David sailed from Bristol on the ship Truelove in 1622 and went on shore at Charles City Co., VA. On 22 March 1622.

The Powhatan Indians killed 347 colonists along the James River. After the attack, a muster was conducted to determine what was on hand to conduct defense against possible further attacks.

David had 1 piece fixed, 1 armor, and 3 chickens. That was all he had to create his life in Virginia.

Initially he worked to build Truelove Plantation. Rowland Truelove, a London clothworker, recruited young people like David to build the plantation but after 3 years the work was folded into Chaplin's Choice.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
David's plantation was north of the James River. South of the river between Flowerdew and Powel Creel is where David's son James was given his first land grant. It was for 250 acres in 1663.
It appears that he was David's first son and he was able to get several other grants over time. In 1702 he was granted 634 acres south of Blackwater Creek.
North of the creel was 470 acres granted to William Jones in 1674.
William's first son was Robert Jones. His arms, Ermine three lions is on record in William and Mary College.
The following is from,"Boddie on the Jones Family of Charles City Co., Virginia. JONES The coat-of-Arms of this family, as given by Robert Jones Attorney-General of North Carolina, who was a descendant, was Ermine three Lions (WM &Mary Quarterly 1st series, 19.p 291).
These are the arms of the Jones family of Kent and London. The first positively known ancestor of the family was James Jones of Charles City and Prince George Co." Boddie talks about land stuff then, "However, it seems slightly more probable that both of these men (James and Richard) are sons of David Jones b. 1594."
