About David Renwick
OBIT from Georgie Soltysik - Sunday 22nd Dec 2019 David deVeer Renwick, second child of Edward Charles ("Ted") Renwick of Grenada and Ada deVeer Renwick (née Dowding) of British Guiana, was born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, on September 1, 1938. The family moved to Grenada in 1945, where David attended the Grenada Boys Secondary School. He dedicated himself to a career as journalist from the age of 12, and after completing his Cambridge School Certificate at 16 joined Grenada's only newspaper at the time, The West Indian. At 18 he returned to Trinidad, where he was employed by the Trinidad Guardian as a reporter, a career he followed virtually all his life, mostly in Trinidad but also in London and Jamaica. At various times he was an editor (the Trinidad Express), a television news director, and CEO of Newsday, but for the last fifty years of his life worked chiefly freelance, contributing articles to newspapers and journals throughout the anglophone world. Most notably in recent years he wrote the entire contents of the bimonthly journal he co-founded, Energy Caribbean, as well as a weekly column on oil for the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian. As a journalist, he was highly respected, and in 2008 was awarded the Trinidad and Tobago gold medal, Hummingbird class, by President George Maxwell Richards.
David died in his sleep early Friday morning, December 20, 2019. He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Renwick, his older brother Peter, and his younger sister Penelope. He is survived by his son Gavin of Philadelphia, daughter Olivia of Trinidad, grandchildren Noah and Savannah Nesbit, and younger brother Roger of Austin, Texas. Funeral services have been set for December 24 at Belgrove's Funeral Chapel in Trincity at 2 pm.
