About David Russell
According to family information the Russell family lived in Perth, Perthshire. When Elizabeth was 10 years old the family emigrated to New Zealand on the Jane Gifford , arriving in Auckland on 9 October 1842.
The Russells first lived in Mechanics Bay in two raupo huts. The family moved into a wooden house in Freemans Bay in 1844 and according to the electoral rolls, were still there in 1853.
It is said by the family that David had received some medical training in Scotland but his occupation was always given as Carpenter.
