David was the only son of Morris Somes & Lucy (Day) Somes, and grew up with three sisters. All four of the children were born in Gloucester, Essex Co, Massachusetts.
He served in the American Revolutionary War around the Sheepscot area of Lincoln Co., Maine. His bride was Jennett Hopkins, daughter of Willliam Hopkins and Mary.
