Obituary, The Record, 1 Sept 2012: David George Waddle of New Hamburg passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2008, surrounded by his loved ones, at Lisaard House, at the age of 76. George was the beloved husband of Vaughn (Sararus) Waddle. Predeceased by his first wife Pauline (Krizmanich) Waddle (1989). Dear father of David (Cathy) Waddle and Patricia (Michael) Koch. Stepfather to Cathleen (Barry) Scheerer, Anne (Gerry) Moser, Eric (Marietta) Stemmler, John (Louise) Stemmler, Dean (Stephanie) Stemmler, and Rhonda Stemmler. Lovingly remembered by two grandsons, Michael and Matthew Waddle and 15 step-grandchildren, Destiny, Danielle, Ryan, Kristy, Aaron, Brandon, Michelle, Alex, Shawn, Madison, Ty, Barry and Tyler, Allen and Jessica and five step-great-grandchildren, Patrick, Christopher, Noah, Keaton and Celena. Dear brother of Catherine (Bill) McNeice of Parry Sound. Predeceased by his parents, Hazen and Pearl (Switzer) Waddle. Uncle Yo will be missed by his many nieces and nephews. His family, Paulines family, and Vaughns extended family will miss George. George was born on May 11, 1932. He was raised in Schumacher, Ontario and moved to Port Dover when he was 15 years old. He resided in Woodstock, Stratford, Waterloo and New Hamburg but never lost his love of The North. He owned a cottage on Lake Manitouwabing near Parry Sound for many years, which provided both him and his family with many happy memories. Hockey was one of his passions. He played Junior A Hockey in Porcupine and coached Minor Hockey in Waterloo for many years. He enjoyed many hobbies including curling, woodworking, and travelling coast to coast both in the United States and Canada. George was a long-time member and active supporter of the Cursillo movement and one of the originators of the Christmas Novena held annually at St. Michaels Parish, Waterloo where he was a member for 20 years. For the past two years, George did volunteer work at the Mennonite Central Committee Warehouse in New Hamburg. The last 15 years of his employment were spent at the University of Waterloo as the Storekeeper in the Chemical Engineering Department. Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Wednesday, September 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with the Cursillo prayer service Wednesday evening. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michaels RC Church, 240 Hemlock St. at University Ave., Waterloo, on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 11 am with Rev. Cornelius OMahoney as celebrant. There will be visitation at the church, prior to the mass, from 10:30 to 11 am, Thursday. Following the mass, interment will be made at New Dundee Union Cemetery followed by a reception at the New Dundee Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lisaard House or the Canadian Cancer Society by contacting the funeral home at 519-745-8445 or www.erbgood.com In living memory of George, a donation will be made to the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
