Obituary- Exponent-Telegram, Mon, Nov. 8, 2010:

"SALEM — David C. Westfall, 86, of Salem, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday Nov. 6, 2010, at the United Hospital Center, Bridgeport. Mr. Westfall was born Feb. 7, 1924, at Wolf Summit, a son of the late Otto O. and Zella Hurst Westfall.

On Aug. 31, 1943, he married Jessie M. Herbert Westfall, who preceded him in death in 1995.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Larry Zirkle, of Salem; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kent and Missy Zirkle and Scott and Stephanie Zirkle, all of Salem, Michele and Shannon Kimble of Columbus, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Lucas and Emma Zirkle; one brother and sister-in-law, Drexall and Martha Jane Westfall of Shinnston; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were five sisters: Eva Morris, Lois Westfall, Mary Westall, Olive Fittro and Clarabelle Powell; and two brothers, Marshall and Victor Westfall.

Mr. Westfall was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served at "The Battle of Europe," as well as in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.

He was a member of the Marshville Baptist Church, a former member of the Salem Senior Citizens; he was the Salem Apple Butter King in 1990. He was retired from Anchor Hocking and was a graduate of Bristol High School. He liked squirrel hunting and working on cars with his grandsons.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. at the Herbert Funderal Home, 289 W. Main St., Salem, with the Rev. Ron Owens officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Marshville Baptist Church Cemetery." [Exponent-Telegram, Mon, Nov. 8, 2010]
