About David Tullis Whitnel

David Tullis Whitnel served in the Union Army during the American Civil War. He was commissioned as the 1st Assistant Surgeon of the 31st Illinois Infantry Regiment on 8 Sep 1861 and he mustered in on 18 Sep 1861 in Cairo, IL. He was promoted to Surgeon on 26 March 1863. He served until after the Battle of Vicksburg, when he resigned on 10 June 1864. "He took the yellow fever and came home. He died within one and one-half years, leaving a widow and two children."
