About Deacon Job Pendleton, Jr.
On April 26, 1808, Job Pendleton, a yeoman farmer born on Islesboro in 1782, bought a part of lot 67 at the foot of Bull Hill and built his home hear the junction of High St. and the McLain's Mills Road. A year later he married Betsey Crane, daughter of nearby neighbor Calvin Crane. They raised twelve children on this farm. Job became a deacon of the local Baptist group which built the First Free Will Baptist Church at the Comer on land donated by Wade Sweetland. Family history says he was a kindly man and respected by all. (From History of Hope Maine by Anna Simpson Hardy)
Their son Dr. Calvin Crane Pendleton joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (nicknamed "Mormon") and settled in Parowan, Utah in 1852.
