About Deborah Bigelow

Born on Dec. 23, 1734 in Shrewsbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Died on Feb. 11, 1816 in Westminster, Worcester County, Massachusetts.

Deborah was the daughter of Ezekiel Knowlton and Susannah Morgan of Shrewsbury, where Deborah was born on December 23, 1734. On October 5, 1761, in the same town, she married Jabez Bigelow. The newlyweds moved to the new settlement of Westminister, and Jabez built a house on lot number 3, on the intersection of Main and Bacon Streets, the lot that Jabez had purchased the spring before from John Wheeler.

Jabez and Deborah had ten children, all born in Westminster. Deborah died February 22, 1816 at Westminster. Deborah is buried in Woodside Cemetery in Westminster.


Inscription:

"In Memory of Mrs. Deborah Bigelow, wife of Lieut. Jabez Bigelow who died Feb. 22, 1815, aged 81. Come hither, mortals cast an eye, Then go thy way, prepare to die; Think of thy doom for die thou must One day like me be turn'd to dust."
