About Debra Denise Humphrey

The best way to describe my sister is that she was extremely unique; from the way she wore her hair to her endless and charming way of being able to "figure things out" she was quite amazing. She left us on September 12, 2006; it was sudden yet expected. I never thought she'd ever leave me, not really. We often spoke of death, often wondered what death really was. She at times was fascinated with it, although she loved life and lived it to her fullest potential. If you were lucky enough to have known her, she would have welcomed anyone with open arms, even those who at times hurt and scorned her. All she really ever wanted was to understand people and what made them "tick". Our childhood wasn't the best by a long shot, we just made the best of it and decided it would be her and me against the world. We both grew up had children and called ourselves lucky; lucky to have raised beautiful, loving and responsible kids. She was proud! Her girls were her life and if by some way or as she would say, "By hook or crook", or say, "hocus-pocus" she'd be back down here with them forever! She attended school in Springfield Illinois; graduated Springfield Southeast high school June, 1976. Enjoyed working in Chicago public schools, worked as a security guard in several fasians. Loved the "art" of dressing up and enjoyed it emencly. Her favorite color was red and she wore it well. She loved and married Michael Humphrey-they later divorced. She left behind 3 great daughters: Melanie Johnson-Pennington,(husband Ahmaad), Noel Humphrey, Nicole Humphrey and 2 grand daughters, Chloe and Aubre; sisters, in order of birth, Veronica Ferguson, April Jefferson, Joyce Lewis, Elizabeth Haley,Lela Johnson and her youngest sister Jenette. A brother William Johnson; several neices and nephews including, Nieavia "Nya" Haley, Donald "Bounce" Haley, Delinvia "Knymmie" Haley, Michael "Mikey" Haley, Nicholas Haley. Laphonso Ellis Jr. and Michael She was preceeded in death by both parents, William Johnson and Charlene Lewis, and grand parents William Johnson and Mattie Johnson; Charles Miller and Edith Miller. Siblings: Linda Fagen; Henry, Charles and June Lewis. We all loved her and honor her life!
