http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=26625235 Delphia Vowell Mize Birth: Jun. 26, 1816 Virginia, USA Death: Jun. 16, 1896 Handy Coweta County Georgia, USA
This is my wife Elaine (Mize) Garrett Great, Great, Great, Grandmother. Trying to acquire more information on this family. Delphia son, John Wesley Mize is buried in Dekalb County and Interned in the Macedonia Baptist Church cemetery. Their are four graves where he is buried, but we do not know who they are. As I said before, we need your help and input.
He was in Company "A" Twelfth Battalion Georgia Volunteer Artillery "Newnan Artillery: He was listed as West Mize on the Muster Roll. Date of enlistment was Apr 1862 and was discharged Apr 1865 at Appromattox, Va. His address as of 1 Jan 1906 was Lithonia, Georgia.
"Plow's brigade" and "??pe's battalion" have captured "general green" and the majority of his army. The result is, crops are very good in this section, and in fine condition. We don't remember to ever have seen farmers in better spirits than at present.
Some of the sick mentioned last week are better at this writing. The many friends of Aunt Delphia Mize, of the Forth district, concerning whose illness we make mention last week will be much grieved to hear that she died on Tuesday last. The remains were interred at Mt. Camel on Wednesday following, funeral services being conducted by Rev. F. G. Goldin, in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends. Truly, a good woman has gone to her reward. The bereaved family have our sympathy.
Newnan, Ga., Friday--July 10, 1896 Obituary
Died, June 16, 1896, Aunt Delphia Mize. She had been a faithful servant of the Lord for many long years. She was taken sick June 7th and suffered until June 16th, when the angels came and carried her to a better land. On the day of her death she remarked that Jesus was with her, and I hope that we can all say the same in the last dark hour. Aunt Delphia was loved by all her friends and neighbors.
"Who can know the hopes and fears, Of the mother's smiles and tears? Who can weigh the prayers expressed For the loved one at her breast? Farewell, mother; peace be thy silent rest. Thou hast loved us ling and well; We must say our last farewell, "Till we meet again beyond the river," There to dwell with thee forever.
