21 May 1794 is the date listed in the "Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988".
27 May 1796 is the date listed in A Genealogical Register of the Descendants in the Male Line of David Atwater, One of the Original Planters of New Haven, Conn., to the Sixth Generation (1873).
3 Sep 1796 is the date given in the "Engvorson Family Tree" profile for Dolly at Ancestry.com. However, that day and month would appear to have been drawn from the birthdate of Dolly's younger sister, Nancy, who according to "A Genealogical Register" mentioned above was born on 3 Sep 1798.
It is more likely that either the first or the second date is correct. If the second is correct, then the explanation of the first date might be that since Dolly's mother gave birth earlier to another Dolly who died before Dolly was born, both records are correct, but for different persons in the same family.
