About Donald Gordon
Donald was born in Japan where his father was a medical missionary and returned to the United States in 1891.
Donald earned B A and LLB degrees from Harvard University in 1902 and became a lawyer in Boston. He and Louise lived in Boston after their marriage; his mother Agnes lived with them until her death. They employed two female servants, both Scottish emigres.
During World War I, he was a Red Cross field director at Camp Devens, MA in 1917 and 1918. He and his family lived at "Drumlin Farm," in South Lincoln, MA. He served as a trustee of the Worcester State Hospital. His hobbies were Welsh terriers, tennis, and genealogy. He is the author of "The Gordons of Greene County, Pennsylvania, " self-published in 1924 and the first substantial effort to document the Gordon family tree, focusing primarily on the descendants of his 2nd great-grandfather, John Adam Gordon.
The "Diary of Ellen Birdseye Wheaton and Family History" was first published in 1923, edited and annotated with comments and additional family history by Donald Gordon, husband of Ellen's granddaughter, Louise Ayer Gordon. In 2018, the diary was digitized and formatted, with articles added, by Katharine Wagner and Katharine's husband Steven Smith, and is published and available paperback or e-reader through Amazon.com.
