DONALD H. HERMANN

Funeral services for Pfc. Donald H. Hermann, 20 (photo), killed in the battle
of St. Lo, France, August 13, 1944, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the
Mittnacht-Kollath funeral home. The Rev. John L. Walker of the Wesley Methodist
church will officiate with burial in Evergreen cemetery. Military rites at the
grave will be accorded by the Charles Karlin post of the Amvets. Friends may
call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday.
Donald Hermann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Hermann of 1806 South 23rd street,
was born in Manitowoc Dec. 11, 1924, and attend public schools here. He was
employed at the Northern Produce company before entering the army in March, 1943
He received training at Fr. Leonard Wood, Mo., Camp Polk, La., Camp Breckenridge,
Ky., and Fort Meade, Md., and was sent overseas in May, 1944, with the signal
corps, headquarters company, 120th infantry regiment, 75th division.
The casketed remains will arrive on the Limited tonight and will be taken to the
funeral home. Pfc. Heermann was buried in the military cemetery near Cherhomg,
France.
Survivors are the parents, brothers; sister (Private); grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Hermann of Manitowoc.

Don Hermann, 19, Killed in France
A telegram from the War department late Monday evening informed Mr. and Mrs.
Victor Hermann 1806 S. 23rd street, that their son, PFC. Donald Hermann, 19,
had been killed on French soil during a battle on August 13. He had earlier
been reported as missing in action. In recent letters to his parents the young
soldier said he had been at St. Lo.
PFC. Hermann left the United States the first week of May, this year, with a
signal corps company. After his induction in March, 1943, he went to Fort L
eonard Wood, Mo., Camp Livingston, La.,and Camp Breckenridge, Ky.
He was born in Manitowoc December 11, 1924, and attended grade and high school
here. He was working for the Northern Produce company before going into military
service.
He is survived by his paretns, a sister, two brothers (Private) and his paternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hermann, all of Manitowoc.
