Donald grew up in Hove, moved to Chatham, Kent, upon his marriage and then lived abroad working for the british government in Lagos, Nigeria . He returned to this country two years after Nigeria's independence whereupon he lived in Horsham, West Sussex until ten years before his death, when he moved to Lincolnshire.
