DONALD RAY ROSE (Age 66)

On Tuesday, January 31, 2017, Don passed away at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Don was born on June 14, 1950, in the beautiful mountains of Southwestern Virginia, in the tiny town of Clintwoood, to Oma and Edd Rose. His parents eventually moved to Alexandria where Don grew-up, graduating in 1969 from George Washington High School. At one point Don considered becoming a firefighter and was a volunteer fireman with the Franconia Volunteer Fire Department Road Squad for a number of years. To many people Don was a beloved fixture at the Old Town Alexandria Safeway on Royal Street, where he worked for thirty years, retiring in 2001. He also had a successful housesitting business for many years; looking after some of Alexandria's finest historic homes. Don moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia in 2005 where he was a great help to his mother and stepfather, Marion, while they were living. Don didn't have children but he had a number of dogs that he considered as much, the first being a beautiful lab mix named Snow and the last being a feisty Shih Tzu named Hannah. And although Don's marriages to Penny Marie Yarbough and Gloria Ann Benton ended in divorce, they remained friends. Don was a gentle, loving soul who will be missed by many. A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, 1902 Plank Road, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401 on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. For those who would like to gather afterwards for lunch, we will meet at the Olive Garden Italian restaurant in Central Park, 2811 Plank Road Fredericksburg, Virginia 22401.
