About Dora Ethel Fletcher

Dora Ethel Fletcher

November 6, 1922 ~ May 13, 2014

Dora went to be with the Lord on May 13, 2014, in Spokane Valley, WA.

She was born on November 6, 1922, to Ben and Ida Adams in Salyersville, KY. Her childhood was filled with great memories of her father’s garden, her mother’s cooking and the fun times with her sister and two brothers. After high school, Dora traveled out west to visit relatives in the Wenatchee area. She decided to make Washington State her home and convinced her sister to move out west as well.

In December 1942, she married Arthur “Art” Fletcher. While he served in the U.S. Navy, Dora helped make ends meet by working in various jobs, including bank teller, dental assistant, and seamstress. Their only child, “Freddy”, was Dora’s pride and joy as he grew up in Wenatchee. Art became a fireman and eventually Fire Marshall in Wenatchee. Dora was always at his side, helping in community events, school and church. Later on, they moved to Ocean Shores and Olympia, WA, where Art served as Fire Chief. In retirement years, Dora loved to travel with her husband, Art. They put many miles on their various RV’s throughout the years, wintering in Arizona and camping all over the Northwest. Going on cruises, visiting with friends and family, baking cookies, and especially going back to the family home in Kentucky were all favorite activities for Dora. She always referred to herself as a Kentucky girl. With amazing fortitude, she took care of Art during his final years.

Dora was preceded in death by her son, Freddy (died at age 20); husband of 61 years, Art; and brother, Jim Adams. She is survived by her sister, Anne Steele; brother, Roy (Edith) Adams; nephews, Randy (Ann) Steele and Rod (Char) Steele; niece, Linda (Dave) Brooks; her very good friends, Tom (Mary Jane) Brown; and many other nieces and nephews and their respective children.
