Dora was born in a town once known as Fordstore, which is just east of Carnesville in Franklin Co. GA. She migrated with her parents to Alabama, then to Mississippi where she met her husband Joe Roper. They married at Aberdeen and started westward in the 1890's to Texas and then to Oklahoma.
