She was born in New York City in 1898,dau of Dr Fred Brockway and spent summers as a child on grandparents farm on Penacook Rd in Contoocook NH.
Attended St Agatha in NY City and Barnard School after winning the Pulitzer Prize Scholarship, and graduated in 1919. Appointed to Miss Spence's school in 1936.
Received a masters degree at Teachers College of Columbia University in 1933.
Worked for American Telephone & Telegraph in NY,; was headmistress at the Spence School in Maryland from 1936-1952.
Was instrumental in acquiring wetlands for the John Brockway Nature Preserve near the home of her great grandparents.
Married Harold Osborne, who died in 1985. Two children: Margaret Osborne McLane and Polly Osborne Smith.
