About Dorothy Philomena Arnzen

COTTONWOOD -- A rosary and vigil service for Dorothy P. Arnzen, 70, a longtime Cottonwood resident and businesswoman, will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church here. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, also at St. Mary's, with the Rev. Joseph Muha of that church as celebrant.

Burial will follow at the Cottonwood Catholic Cemetery.

Arnzen died Tuesday morning December 2, 1997 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston of injuries sustained when she was hit by a car Monday evening in Cottonwood.

She was born to Frank H. and Loretta Hochgesang Bieker Aug. 26, 1927, at Ferdinand. She grew up there and graduated from Ferdinand High School in 1945.

She entered the U.S. Army Cadet Nursing Program at St. Joseph's Hospital school of nursing in 1946. She was discharged from the Army in 1947, but completed her training. She was a registered nurse in Idaho and Washington and retained her certification throughout her life.

She married Francis J. Arnzen Dec. 27, 1948, at Ferdinand. The couple lived at Moscow and Clarkston before buying the Turner Drug Store at Cottonwood in 1956. They changed the name to Arnzen Drug Store.

Her husband died Jan. 21, 1984, and their son Rod purchased the store in 1985. She worked there up to her death.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at Cottonwood, the Catholic Daughters of America and St. Mary's Hospital Guild at Cottonwood. She enjoyed flowers, music, dancing and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by five sons, Eric, Rod and Frank Arnzen, all of Cottonwood, Brian Arnzen of Portland, Ore., and Loran Arnzen of Des Moines, Wash.; a daughter, Renee Jacques of Boise; three brothers, Frank J. Bieker of Spokane, H. James Bieker of Ontario, Ore., and Donald Bieker of Ferdinand; a sister, Marlene Zodrow of Lewiston; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a brother, Robert Bieker, and a sister, Marcie Gray.
