About Dorothy Cottrell

She was the daughter of Capt. James Pendleton and wife, Hannah Goodenow, baptized at the First Church of Stonington October 3, 1686. She was admitted to membership in the same church July, 1709. He (Nicholas Cottrell) was in the early Colonial wars. Nicholas Cottrell died in 1727. Her two daughters Dorothy and Amie were also baptized July 31st, 1709. They were called daughters of Gershom, but as no Gerhom appears, it is supposed that they belonged to Nicholas Cottrell.


The daughter of Capt James Pendleton and Hannah Goodenow Pendleton. She married Nicholas Cottrell in March 1706 at Stonington. The baptism of Dorothy is recorded on Oct 3, 1686, at the First Church of Stonington. The will of James Pendleton lists children: Joseph, Edmund, Caleb, Ann Brown, Eleanor Pendleton and "Dorothey Pendleton"

Further, a deposition identifies the children as: We the Deponants Being Nigh Neighbors to Capt. James Pendleton of s'd Westerly We the Depoants Well Knew him and his wife Hannah Pendleton & their Deputed Children, The first Joseph Pendleton by the s'd Hannah and the 2nd Was Edmond, the third Was Caleb the next is Ann, the next was Elenor, the next was Dorithy, We the deponants further Sayeth that the above Named Children was the Deputed Children of ye above s'd Capt. James Pendleton & his Wife Hannah as above s'd Which daughters above mentioned was married, Ann to Elezer Brown, Elinor Was Married to Wm. Walker , Dorithy to Nicholas Cottrill.

Dorothy Cottrell Randall, born 1709, was the daughter of Nicholas and Dorothy Pendleton Cottrell. She married John Randall, on December 22, 1726.

Children of Nicholas and Dorothy were: Dorothy, Amey, Mary (#135600728), Eleanor (#156626957), Nicholas IV (#63022856) and Joseph.
