Dorothy Pettit/Petty/Pettus was born about 1657, the daughter of Thomas Pettit and his wife, Katherine Morris. Her father died in 1663 and left her numerous bequests in his will. [1] Dorothy married James Fugate in November, 1675. Before their marriage James went to court and acknowledged the right of her mother, Katherine, to her dower portion of the land left to Dorothy by her father. [2] In 1693 James went to court claiming that Thomas Gaines, Katherine's husband, was cutting wood on Dorothy's land.
James died after 1695 and Dorothy married Godfrey Stanton. [3]
Her date and place of death are unknown.
