About Douglas Adams
Douglas Noel Adams (11 March 1952 – 11 May 2001) was an English author, comic radio dramatist, and musician. He was best known for his Hitchhiker Trilogy in Five Parts novel series (The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy; The Restaurant At The End of the Universe; So Long And Thanks For All The Fish; Life, The Universe, and Everything; Mostly Harmless; including the short story Young Zaphod); The Salmon of Doubt; Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency; The Long Dark Tea-Time of The Soul; and his non-fiction book Last Chance to See. Several of his works, in whole, part, or re-written form, have become motion pictures, television shows, and radio shows.
Adams was known as an advocate for environmentalism and conservation, as a lover of fast cars, cameras, technological innovation and the Apple Macintosh.
Adams described his religion as "radical atheist" saying, "Although I have no evidence for my belief, and despite the fact that I've existed a mere few decades in the entire grand history of all existence, I am convinced that there is not a god." Despite his atheist beliefs, he gives a respectful nod to Jesus Christ in the opening of his first Hitchhiker's Guide novel, saying, "And then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change..."
