About Douglas Arthur Rogers

ROGERS, Douglas Arthur, 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and to be reunited with his loving companion Katie on Friday, April 17, 2009. Doug was born in 1931 in Sequim, Wash., to Arthur J. and Neva F. (Smith) Rogers. He grew up in the Sequim-Dungeness area, graduating from Sequim High School. He married Bonnie Lamica and they had four children, one daughter Neva Marie Rogers in California and three sons Lane Lamica in California, Richard L. Rogers in Oregon and E. Jay Rogers in Minnesota. Doug married Erma Boyce in 1971 in San Diego, Calif. In 1979, he moved from Mantica, Calif., to Klamath Falls. He joined the United States Navy in 1950, retiring in 1973 with the rank of chief sonarman submarine service. He spent his entire career serving on both diesel and nuclear submarines, initially serving on the USS Caiman and subsequently on the USS Madison, the USS Sculpin and the USS Salmon. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He is survived by four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; his brother Dave Rogers of Klamath Falls; and nine sisters and three brothers, all who live in the Pacific Northwest. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Neva Rogers. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Ward's Klamath Funeral Home, 1945 Main St., at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2009,with Pastor Bruce Silver of Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church officiating. Disposition will be by Pyramid Cremations.
