About Dr. Arthur Keesee

According to tradition Jacques La Caze, a French Huguenot, was the progentor of the Keesee Family of the Virginia Colony. He was of that large company of French Huguenot refugees who emigrated from England of France about 1700 amd sponsored by William Byrd III, settled at Manocantown, Henrico Co. (now Mankin, Goochland) about 20 miles up the James River from present Richmond. In anglicizing the name the 'La' was dropped and the 'Caze' was pronounced as two syllables and spelled Keesee. Authur Keesee's service in the Rev. was civil as distinguished from military. Ref- Early Families of E & SE KY by William C. Kozee pgs
