" RITES SET SUNDAY FOR DR. KAHLE
Knox - Funeral services for Dr. I. Dana Kahle, prominent Knox physician, who died Thursday, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in the Knox Cemetery. Born in Ashland Township, Clarion County, August 8, 1875, he was the oldest son of Levi W. and Chloe Wood Kahle. He was married December 11, 1897, to Margie R. Boyer of Monroe, who preceded him in death December 18, 1953. After attending Clarion Normal School, he began teaching at the age of 18 years. He taught six terms in the public schools of Clarion County. In 1901, he moved to Baltimore, Md., to enter the College of Physicians and Surgeons. And in 1903 he passed the state board of medicine of West Virginia and was licensed to practice in the state, which at that time did not require a medical degree. Through the winters of 1903 and 1904 he continued his studies at medical college, receiving his degree in May 1905. He received his license to practice from the Pennsylvania State Board in June 1905. However, he continued to practice in West Virginia until July 1908 when he moved to Knox where he practiced until his death. During his 55 years of medical service he delivered more than 6,000 babies. He had always taken an active part in politics since 1908 when he was elected a delegate from Tyler County, W.Va., to the state convention in Charlestown, W.Va. to help nominate the governor. In 1926 he was elected State Representative from Clarion County. He was re-elected in 1928 and again in 1930, serving three terms in the House of Representatives in Harrisburg. In 1934, he was elected state senator, representing the counties of Clarion, Forest, Elk, Cameron and Clinton. Dr. Kahle was a delegate to the 1939 National Convention in Chicago, Ill., where he helped nominate Franklin D. Roosevelt for his third term as president. Always active in medicine, he was a member of the Clarion County Medical Society, the Pennsylvania State Medical Society, and the American Medical Association. He was on the visiting staff at the Oil City Hospital and served as company surgeon for the B & O Railroad from 1908 until his death. Retaining his boyhood interests he engaged in farming and also oil and gas operations in this vicinity. Dr. Kahle was a member of the Methodist Church; IOOF; and Edenburg Lodge No. 550, F. and A.M. He is survived by a brother, Dr. G.W. Kahle of Marienville; a sister, Mrs. F.S. Torrey of Knox; one son, Dr. Standish C. Kahle of Greenville; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. The body is in the Stuart Funeral Home, Knox."
