Joseph STRONG Sr., M.D. was born on MAR 10 1770 in South Coventry, Connecticut Colony. (130) He graduated from Yale College in 1788. He was educated under Dr. Lemuel Hopkins between 1788 and 1790 in Hartford, CT. He was educated at the University of Pennsylvania between 1791 and 1792 in Pennsylvania. School of Medicine, under Dr. Benjamin Rush. He was a Physician in 1792 in Middletown, CT. He served in the military from MAY 4 1792 to MAY 1 1796. Surgeon's mate in the legion of General Anthony Wayne in the Ohio campaign against the Indians. His commission was signed by President George Washington on March 19, 1793. He was a Physician after 1796 in Philadelphia, PA. Invented Axle Tourniquet for the control of bleeding during surgical operations (patent dated January 29, 1801). He resided after 1796 in Philadelphia, PA. Promoter of the Philadelphia Society for the Encouragement of Domestic Manufacturers. He died on APR 24 1812 in Philadelphia, PA.(130) Died of Yellow Fever. First cousin of the martyr spy Nathan Hale. Second cousin, once removed, of Vermont hero Ethan Allen. Parents: Deacon Corporal Benajah STRONG Sr. and Lucy BISHOP .
