Midway Native Dies at 71
UNION — Dr. Leonard Reed Alder, 71, 1500 E. Creek Road, Union, died Thursday at his home. He was born Oct. 28, 1898, in Midway, Wasatch County, a son of Peter and Mary Jane Abplanalp Alder.
He married Lorna Forbush on April 21,1932, in Salt Lake City.
Dr. Alder was a dentist for 41 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Christian Scientist Church. A graduate of University of Utah, Dr. Alder received his doctorate of dental surgery from the University of Southern California in 1927, with honorary degree cum laude. He was Kamas High School principal for one year. Dr. Alder was a member of the American Dental Association, Utah State Dental Association, Salt Lake District Dental Society, where he served as president. He was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his widow; one daughter and two sons, Dr. John L. Alder, Midway; William L. Alder, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Jay Craig (Susan) Carlos, San Francisco, Calif.; five grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. T.J.(Myrtle) Snarr and Mrs. C. Richard (Lacy) Sundquist, both Salt Lake City; Mrs. Guy (Teresa) Coleman, Midway; Mrs. Diamond (Vilate) Adams, Layton.
Funeral services will be held Monday at noon at 4760 S. State, where friends may call one-half hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Murray City Cemetery. The family requests contributions to the Research Department at U of U.
