About Dr Ralph Pope, MD

WikiTree:

Ralph was born in 1705. He was the son of Ralph Pope and Rachel Neale. Dr. Ralph lived on what was originally called "The Road to Dorchester Swamp" or rather a continuation of that road, near the Bridewater line. It was renamed Sumner Street. His brother Lazurus lived on an adjoining tract of land on a parallel road. Their father had bequeathed them the land and a mill on the property for their joint use. Ralph may have pursued some studies at Harvard College but he was not a graduate and tradition points to Compton, Rhode Island as the place of his medical training. He always refused fees for his services on the "sabbath". His name has stood through four generations as a kind and benevolent man, greatly beloved by those who knew him. He carried on the farm and was a partner in the lumber business with his brother. Dr. Ralph Pope passed away in 1750 of what was called "nervous fever" On his tombstone, erected to his memory in the cemetery at Stoughton Village, reads the following inscription. "You reader stay and lend a Tear, Think on the Duft that flumbers here, and when you thus my silence see, Think on the glass that runs for thee."
He wrote his Will Dec 24, 1749[1]
