Sen. Samuel Baker Walcott, b. 1795 Bolton, Worcester County, Massachusetts, d. 1854 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts; legally changed his name in 1819 from Jesse Walcott to Samuel Baker Walcott, because he was raised by his grandmother, the widow of Samuel Baker; he entered Phillips Academy 1812, graduated Harvard College 1819, studied law with Daniel Webster, opened a law office in Hopkinton in 1830, served as a Massachusetts state legislator, both as Representative and as Senator from Hopkinton, opened a law office in Salem Massachusetts in 1850; Samuel was administrator of a sizable trust fund for his cousin by marriage, Mary Tappan Pickman, daughter of Thomas Pickman of Salem; m. Martha Pickman 1829 Salem Massachusetts. 1840 Hopkinton Massachusetts. 1850 Salem Massachusetts.

He was father of Brig. General Charles Folsom Walcott, and Henry Pickering Walcott, President of the Massachusetts Medical Society and Acting President of Harvard University.
