IS THOMAS THE BROTHER OF DRUCILLA ALEWINE?

NOTE: Drucilla Arledge filed for divorce and alimony from Ulysses Arledge on or about 1 May 1897 and Grant Arledge (28), Elizabeth Arledge (21), Basil Arledge (16), and Thomas P. Alewine provided supporting statements. The case was continued from Polk County Superior Court term to term and does not appear on the docket after Spring Term 1901. It does not appear that divorce and/or alimony were ever granted.

Drucilla Alewine was born 1846 (NC or SC?), married on 9 Nov 1880 (Polk County, NC) to Ulysses Arledge, died 1923 in Gowensville, Greenville County, SC, and buried in Sanders Plot, Landrum, SC, cemetery. Drucilla was living with my grandparents (John Irving and

Elizabeth Arledge Sanders) at the time of her death. Drucilla and Ulysses were separated

and probably divorced at that time.

Subject: Re: Drucilla Alewine

I HAVE A MARCILLA BORN IN 1846, BUT COULD BE YOUR DRUCILLA. JUST SPELLED WRONG ON THE CENCUS. IF THAT IS TRUE, THE HER PARENTS WOULD BE ELI ALEWINE AND MARCELLA RUFF. ELI DIED CA 1849 IN GREENVILLE COUNTY OR NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC.

MARCELLA MARRIED ELI CARNEY IN THE EARLY 1850'S, BUT THE KIDS TOOK THE

ALEWINE NAME. IT COULD BE THAT ELI WAS WANTED FOR SOMETHING SO HE TOOK THE CARNEY NAME OR SHE REALLY MARRIED ELI CARNEY OR SHE WAS JUST LIVING WITH ELI CARNEY.

Jerry Harris wrote on 6 Jan 2000

I believe that there was an Eli Alewine (died 1849) married to Marcella Ruff as parents of Drucilla Alewine. See capitalized comments from Pat McCool (attached to my attachment to my note to you today) dated August 24, 1998. The 1850 SC Greenville County Census shows Manella (Marcella) Alewine as HOH.

Do you have information as to where Drucilla Arledge was in the 1900 Census? She may have been with one of her sons in SC. From your note Drucilla was with William Arledge in 1910. Also, do you know where she was in 1920 Census? I think she was with Blaine Arledge prior to moving in with my grandparents (John and Elizabeth Arledge Sanders) near Gowensville, SC, until her death in 1923.
