About Drusilla Margaret Cook
Drusilla Margaret Hirons (1869-1962) was born May 27, 1869, in Fowler, Illinois. Her parents were William S. Hirons (____ - 1888) and Lydia Stahl Hirons (____ - 1873).
Drusilla may have been a student at LaGrange College, Missouri, where she met the Rev. Dr Joshua Flood Cook (1834-1912), President of the college. Joshua and Drusilla were married in Quincy, Illinois on May 14, 1895. Drusilla was Joshua's third wife, he, having been widowed twice. After her marriage if not before, Drusilla was a teacher at LaGrange College.
The father of four children with his first wife, Susan Farmer (1838-1890), Joshua and Drusilla were the parents of one child, Howard Elliott Cook (1905-1956).
After her husband's death in 1912, Drusilla and Howard moved from LaGrange to Fairport, New York, where Drusilla was the director of a Baptist Home for women.
In later life, Drusilla moved to Florida, living in Tampa and then in Kissimme, where she was living when she died, on Nov 12, 1962.
Drusilla was devoted to her extended family but especially to her son, Howard. She worried about him constantly, as he had been a Japanese POW in China for almost four years. Returning traumatized, Howard died in Santa Monica, CA in 1956. He was 51. Making notations of family events in her Bible during WWII, she added, "For Howard Please keep for him in case"
Drusilla was remembered in a 1962 letter from a friend, as having lived "a busy, hard wonderful life." Drusilla Cook is buried beside her son and husband in LaGrange, MO.
