About Duane Neil Gorrell

Duane was born the son of Jerry Duane and Ellen Gorrell. He married the former Rebecca Froelich on 6 May 1976, in the LDS Temple at Salt Lake City, Utah. They are the parents of seven children. He graduated from White River High School in Buckley, Washington. He also attended Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College. Duane loved music, gardening, genealogy, basketball, and camping. He was an LDS missionary in Johannesburg, South Africa, and especially loved serving in the temple. Duane was compassionate and loving, especially to his wife and children. He passed away after a twelve year battle with Lou Gherig's Disease (ALS). He is survived by his wife, four sons: Nicholas, Micah, Matthew, and Kelson, two daughters: Tessa and Jennifer, one grandchild, his mother, two brothers, and three sisters. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Gorrell, and by his father.

Duane Neil Gorrell, 48, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2001 in Provo, Utah, after a 12 year battle with Gherig's Disease.

He was born April 26, 1953 in Nyssa, Malheur, Oregon a son of Jerry Duane and Ellen Gorrell. He married Rebecca Froelich on May 6, 1976, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They are the parents of seven children.

He graduated from White River High School in Buckley, Washington. He also attended Brigham Young University and Utah Valley State College. Duane loved music, gardening, genealogy, basketball, writing his memoirs for his family and especially enjoyed camping with his family.

He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings, including as a missionary in the Johannesburg, South Africa Mission. He especially enjoyed serving in the temple. Duane was a most compassionate, loving person and a great example and blessing to all. He found his greatest joy as a father and husband and was a great example and blessing to his wife and children despite his illness. He will be missed by his family and all whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; four sons: Nicholas Neil Gorrell, Provo; Micah Nelson Gorrell, Provo; Matthew Daren Gorrell, Provo; Kelson Ernest Gorrell, Provo; two daughters: Tessa (Misty) Slade, Salt Lake City; Jennifer Ellen Gorrell, Provo; one grandchild; mother, Ellen Gorrell, Buckley, WA; mother and father-in-law, Dale and Krista Froelich, Murray, Utah; two brothers: Jerry (Denise) Gorrell, Highland, UT; Joey Gorrell, Buckley, WA; and three sisters: Suzanne (Bob) LeFleur, Enumclaw, WA; Anna (Lyle) Brownell, Enumclaw, WA; and Sara (Mike) Champ, Enumclaw, WA. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa, and his father, Jerry Duane Gorrell.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Lakeside 8th Ward, 131 South 1600 West, Provo, UT. Friends and family may call Friday, August 17, 2001 from 6-8 p.m. at the Walker Family Mortuary, 85 E. 300 S., Provo, or at the Church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Walker Family Mortuary of Provo.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the many doctors, nurses, aids, friends, neighbors and family who provided love, support, and care throughout Duane's illness.
