About Dvr. Henry Foster
Son of Christina and the late Edward Foster, of Lowburn Ferry, Otago. One of three brothers who died in service during the Great War. Serial Number appears as 9/1163 in Nominal Rolls, as 9/1168 in Archives New Zealand. Posted to Otago Mounted Rifles Regiment, Mudros, 3 October 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 25 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Transferred to 4th Brigade Ammunition Column, 11 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 5 April 1916. Admitted to No 2 NZ Field Ambulance, 6 December 1916, and transferred to Casualty Clearing Station; to 3rd Canadian General Hospital, Boulogne, 8 December 1916 (lobar pneumonia). Died of disease, 16 December 1916 (broncho-pneumonia).
