About Earl Volney Edkins
GEDCOM Note
Also worked as an electrician at Wanamaker’s in Philadelphia.
From Earl’s Granddaughter, Harriet Campbell Young, e-mail of 24 Feb 2017: “One of the things that has struck me as odd as I got older was that I really didn't know most of my Edkins relatives. Some of the names, like Aunt Helen Irwin, are familiar, but I don't remember my grandfather, Earl, talking about his siblings. He was the second from last son being born in 1894 and that may have been part of the issue. From a couple of things that I have heard, I have a feeling that my great-grandmother, Sarah, did not liked my grandmother, Harriet Edkins. I got the probate proceedings from Philadelphia for both William Volney and Sarah Edkins and saw that Sarah left my grandfather's share of her estate in trust. Whether or not the story is true, Grace told me that her grandmother,Sarah, was afraid my grandfather would eat himself to death if he had the money. Both my grandmother and grandfather were large people. I have some photographs from the early 40's of both Ma and Grandad Edkins and Aunt Grace in Wildwood. Grace is around 15 or 16 and looks to be in her 20's. She was a looker. I will send you some of the photos.
There sees to be a connection with the Edkins and Atlantic Refining. Grandad Edkins worked for Atlantic refining all of his life. I also have some photos of the fire brigade at the Philadelphia Refining and some of the plant.
My grandparents married young (1915) and my mother, Helen Doris Edkins, was born on August 19, 1916. Aunt Grace was born 9 years later on March 3, 1925. “
