About Earle Russell Howes
Earle was born in Jay, ME in the home that his great-grandfather, Dudley Bean, had built. He graduated from Jay High School in 1917, and spoke at the graduation ceremony. Following graduation, he worked at the Riley Mill, which made pulp for the paper mill in Chisholm, ME. It was well known that he would take his boat across the river every day to work and in the winter he would walk across with a pole in case he ever fell through the ice.
Following his marriage to Florence Paine, he moved down the street from the house he was born in, and it was in this house that he would live until his death from a stroke.
