About Ebenezer Dimon

Graduated from Yale 1728.

Graduated at Yale College, 1723. The following is abridged from Dexter's Yale Annals :

" Ebenezer Dimon, son of Capt. Moses Dimon, settled in his native town and married (probably early in 1730) Mary Burr of Fairfield. He was for a number of years sheriff of the county. He died in Fairfield, leaving three sons and five daughters. The inventory of his estate amounted to about ;2{^5,8oo."

His heirs received a house and home lot and other property, valued at jQ2,()\o, in the distribution of his father's estate. (F. Pro. Rec.)

This inscription is upon his tombstone in the old Fairfield burying-ground:

Here lyes Buried

ye Body of Mr.

in ye 42d Year of his Age.

From his fathers Last Will

Item: To my beloved son Ebenezer Dimon and to his heirs and assigns forever I will, devise and bequeath five acres of land in the Town: called Joseph lot opposite to Capt. Hill's house. Also all my land in Joshua's lot so called within the Field Gate, in quantity about three acres : also my land at the Field so called; being my pasture lot and Jacob Gray's &c. : in quantity about fifteen acres : also all my land in the Great pasture, being in quantity about eleven acres be it more or less; bounded northerly by his own land, and southerly my said son John's land: also all my meadow in the Reed Pond lot so called and all my right in Paul's neck; also my negro boy named Jeffrey.

Mary (Burr) Dimon, b. 1708; d. Sept. 12, 1766, in Fair- field; m. Jan., 1730-1, Ebenezer Dimon; m. 2d, Jan. 4, r748, James Smedley.

Baptized July 4, 1708. Daughter of Hon. John and Deborah (Barlow) Burr of Fairfield. After the death of Ebenezer she married James Smedley, by whom she had two children, Samuel and Eunice.

Item of the will of John Burr: " I give unto my daughter Mary, one hundred pounds, to be paid her, when she shall arrive at the age of 18 years, or at marriage if sooner."

In the distribution of her husband's estate, made December i, 1747, she received property valued at about ^1,700. (F. Pro. Rec.)

Her tombstone in the old burying-ground at Fairfield is of blue slate, from which a jDart of the inscription has scaled off. The following is all that remains : Here MRS. MARY SMED to Cole. James Smedley Who departed this Life Sept ye 12th 1766 in ye 58th Year of Her Age.
