About Ebenezer Green Pomeroy

Ebenezer G. Pomeroy was a metallurgist and inventor who, among other things, invented a horizontal boot-clamp, for which he was granted U.S. Patent #38.

History and Genealogy of the Pomeroy Family gives Ebenezer the title Dr., but neither his patent applications or other documents listing Ebenezer contain this title.

From his FindAGrave memorial: "Ebenezer Green Pomeroy is the son of Elisha Pomeroy and Submit Green. He was born in 1790 in Saratoga County, New York and married Mary Gay 14 Jun 1818 in Muskingum County, Ohio. Their first born died in Fairfield County Ohio in 1821 and he appears on the 1840 census in Newark, Licking, Ohio. Around 1840 he owned a copper mine in Missouri and discovered a process for coating iron with copper. He is on the 1850 census in Covington, Kenton, Kentucky and the 1860 census in New York City (Ward 7 District 2).
