About Eddie "Edd" Miller Arledge

My grandfather, Edd's name was NOT Edward. It was Eddie Miller Arledge but he went by the name "Edd".

He was blind for many years. Later, several years after Edd died, Grandma (Kate) also went blind for a very difference reason.. Since then I have wondered if she just had cataracts and the doctors didn't know how to remove them. Not sure, just a thought!

I remember Grandad sitting on the front porch of their home at 925 NW 32nd St., Oklahoma City, OK and making belts by looping pieces together. He also made other things like that to keep his hands and mind busy. He enjoyed the soap operas (on the radio. We didn't have televisions then and he wouldn't have been able to see anything anyway. One time he walked into the bathroom and his daughter, Ailene, just out of habit said, "Daddy, why don't you turn the light on?". He said, "Why?"

I don't know what religion Grandad was before he met Grandma (Kate). At the age of 46 he became a Catholic. Even though he was blind he walked the two blocks to Our Lady's Catholic Cathedral on a badly broken sidewalk. I have walked it myself and don't see how an unsighted person could do that. The priest called him affectionately "the bishop". Grandad was loved by many.

He used to have Sen-Sen in his pocket for the bad breath that the brain tumor caused. We loved it when he offered each of us a few of the little black pieces. I can still taste it.
