Evening Post, 12 May 1939: Obituary, Miss Edit Freeman: Miss Edith Freeman, whose death occurred recently at her home, Karaka Bay, will be mourned by many friends in Wellington. She was the younger daughter of the late Eliza and William Freeman, of Molesworth Street. Miss Freeman was held in high esteem in Wellington for her interest in various organisations. During the war she interested herself in the welfare of soldiers, and from its commencement was an untiring worker in the Base Records office. She was also one of the many women who knitted and sent parcels and letters to the men at the front. Miss Freeman was among the early members of the Navy League. When her services were no longer needed to help the soldiers she devoted herself to the Women's National Reserve and was for many years president of the Seatoun branch and a member of the national executive of the main body. It was only due to failing health that Miss Freeman had to retire from an active part in these organisations.
