About Edmond Rivers Vincent
Burnie Advocate - 17 March 1948 OBITUARY
MR. E. R. VINCENT Mr. Edmund Rivers Vincent (45) one of Burnie's best known residents, died suddenly at his home, Alexander Street, yesterday morning. The late Mr. Vincent's death came as a shock to his family and many friends as the previous day he was apparently in good health. He became ill in the early hours of the morning and died soon afterwards. Born at Beaconsfield, he was a son of Mr. Frank Vincent and the late Mrs. Vincent. He moved to Launceston, where he served an apprenticeship as a motor painter. From there he went to the West Coast, and worked at Waratah and Zeehan. He married Miss Marion Mary Rubock, and after living for a short time at Waratah, moved to Burnie, where he purchased Mr. H. Nylon's undertaker's business. He had been engaged in that business ever since, and recently extended his activities to Ulverstone. He also conducted a joinery business at Burnie. The late Mr. Vincent was possessed of a generous nature, and a happy disposition. He was a keen worker for the Spencer Hospital, and for some time was ambulance driver for the Burnie Council. He was a staunch supporter of the U.A.O.D., and was an untiring worker for the Commonwealth Lodge, No. 9, for many years. He was a Past Arch of the branch, also a Past Branch President. He was recognised as a strong canvasser for new members of the movement, and many of the younger members of the Lodge in Burnie were seconded by him. He helped the Commonwealth Lodge out of financial difficulties during the war years. He leaves a widow; two sons, Ken and John; a daughter, Margaret; two brothers, Messrs. Allan (Melbourne) and Frank (Melbourne); and one sister, Madge (Mrs. Vail, Launceston). One sister, Gladys (Mrs. Stephens), predeceased him. The funeral will take place at the Wivenhoe cemetery to-morrow.
VINCENT. - On March 16, 1948, suddenly, at his residence, 20 Alexander St., Burnie, Edmond Rivis (Ted), dearly beloved husband of Marion Mary Vincent, loving father of Kenneth, Margaret, and John, eldest beloved son of Frank Vincent, of 16 Bourke St., Launceston and the late Margaret Vincent. Requiescat in pace.
