About Edmund Carpenter

MESA, August 6, 1952 -- Funeral services for Edmund Carpenter, 74, of 155 S. Center, who died Monday, will be conducted in Thatcher Ward Chapel of the LDS Church in Thatcher at 4 p.m. Friday. Friends may call at Meldrum Mortuary in Mesa from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Mr. Carpenter died of a heart attack suffered after receipt of information that his niece, Rosalie, had been killed and other members of his family injured in an automobile accident 12 miles east of Apache Junction.

Mr. Carpenter was born in Washington, Utah. He was taken to Thatcher with his parents when he was 6 years old. He had been a rancher there until he moved to Mesa 8-1/2 years ago. He had been a worker in the Arizona Temple of the LDS Church since coming to Mesa.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann; three daughters, Mrs. Archie Millett of Mesa, Mrs. Leslie J. Layton of Tempe, and Mrs. Corbin G. Hannah of Clarksburg, West Virginia, three sons, Norman of Solomon, James M. of Thatcher, and Philip of Phoenix; nine brothers, William of Eden, Charles of Glendale, Utah; George of Salt Lake City; Joseph L., Frank, and John, all of Thatcher; Lester of Mesa, and Parley and Raymond, both of Safford; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph R. (Emma Lillian) Naillon, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Charles E. (Margaret) Talley, Safford, 19 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Rosalie Carpenter will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Meldrum Mortuary Chapel here with Bishop Elmer Hastings, Mesa Third Ward of the LDS Church, officiating.
