About Edna Leighton Tyler

Edna Tyler resided in the District of Columbia with her parents, Colonel and Mrs. Augustus C. Tyler. In the 1890s they built a home which faced Farragut Square on I Street Northwest. It later became the Women’s University Club. She attended Mrs. Finch’s School which became the Holton Arms School. The New London League of Women Voters established the Edna L. Tyler Award for Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut. The award is given to a student who demonstrates an awareness of the principles of self-government established in the Constitution of the United States and an interest in the promotion of political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens of government. She died at age 91 on Monday, August 31, 1970 in New London, Connecticut where she had resided for many years. Survivors included one sister, Mrs. Tyler Marshall of Philadelphia.
