Birth: Jan. 6, 1860 Spring City Sanpete County Utah, USA

Death: Feb. 19, 1937 Central Graham County Arizona, USA

Edsil M. Allred served as a bishop of the Central Ward for over 17 years. He was truly beloved by the people and he spent much time away from home, visiting the poor and administering to the sick. His faith in prayer and administration was great and many could testify that his faith and prayers saved their lives. Edsil Myron Allred was born 6 January 1860 to Joseph Anderson Allred and Rhoda Ann Palmer. He was the first white male child to be born in Spring City, Utah. Edsil met Alice Choules in Idaho. They were married 29 January 1888 in Fairview, Idaho. They made their first home in Lewiston, Utah, then moved back to Fairview, Idaho. In the spring of 1896 Edsil became very ill. The doctor told him to move to a warm dry climate. He had a brother living in Thatcher, Arizona, so decided to move there. The family arrived by train 23 December 1896 and stayed with Edsil's brother" Uncle Joe", until they could find a place to live. The family moved to Central, Arizona, in 1898 to farm. Before becoming bishop of the Central Ward, Edsil served as Sunday School Superintendent and as counselor to Bishop Alva S. Porter. After serving 17 years as bishop, he was the oldest bishop in the stake. He was set apart as stake Patriarch in May 1926. Although Edsil was not a highly educated man, he was called to speak on many different occasions, for he was a very humble, spiritual, kind and considerate man. He died 19 February 1937 at the age of 77 years. Eleven children were born to Edsil and Alice: Joseph Newberry, Myron Erastes, Alice Ann (Dodge), Emily Priscilla (Shurtz), Gilbert Charles who died as a child, Eliza Mae (Martin), George who died at age 2, twins Darus and Dora (Lee), Rhoda Belle (Overson), Delva Naomi (Cluff).
