Edward Macarthy Baldwin, A Criminal Attorney, Assistant District Attorney And Civil Rights Activist, Died Wednesday Of Complications From Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease At Baptist Hospital. He Was 67. Mr. Baldwin Was Born In New Orleans And Lived In Ponchatoula For The Past Eight Years. He Received A Bachelor Of Arts Degree From Citadel College In 1948, A Master's Degree In Theater In 1951 And A Law Degree In 1954, Both From Tulane University. He Was Assistant District Attorney From 1955 To 1959 And Was Active In The School Desegregation Movement In New Orleans. He Was A Volunteer For The Crisis Phone In Tangipahoa Parish And Was Active In The Smoker's Recovery Program. He Was Active In The Dock Street Theater In Charleston From 1947 To 1948 And The Le Petit Theatre From 1954. Mr. Baldwin Wrote Poetry And Wrote And Produced Video Documentaries. Survivors Include His Companion, Valerie Fleming Turgeon; Three Daughters, Kathryn Baldwin Fitzpatrick Of Bay St. Louis, Miss., Christane Baldwin Crounse Of Pass Christian, Miss., And Charlotte Elizabeth Baldwin Of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; A Son, John Edward Bouligny Baldwin Of New Orleans; Two Brothers, William Mother And David Gilmore Baldwin Of New Orleans; And 11 Grandchildren. A Private Burial Will Be Held Sunday. Times Picayune 03- 05-1993
