  • 2nd Lt. Wiltshire Regiment 1907; Lt. 1909;
  • Transferred to the Indian Army Gurka Rifles 1909, Burma Rifles 1914 and was A.D.C. to Lord Carmichael, Governor of Bengal;
  • Served in the Great War in France and Mesopotamia.
  • Awarded the Military Cross for ‘brilliant dash and leadership’ at Neuve Chapelle on 10 March 1915. [Abingdon News 2003].
