Sir Joseph Cowen, born 1800, died 1873. He married Mary Newton in 1822 at All Saints Church in Newcastle. They had the following children:-

Edward Cowen 1835 – 1867 Edward Cowen never married and died in New Zealand.

It is our painful duty to record the death of Mr Edward Cowen, the youngest son of Joseph Cowen, Esq., M.P. for Newcastle. He left this country some few years ago for Australia, and died there a few months ago. He was much respected in Blaydon and locality for his kind and unassuming disposition.
