About Edward Steven Deed

Edward and Esther lived in Kings Street, Hammersmith, England before migration to South Australia, on the 'Canton'. This 3 mast ship (built in 1834 at Hylon near Sunderland) left from Gravesend on 26 Oct 1837. It arrived in Adelaide Sth Australia on 2 May 1838 under the command of Capt. J Mordaunt. They had with them their four sons and four daughters. Esther gave birth to three more boys once they had moved to Australia (totalling 11 children). From the Register of Public Notices for daughter Mary's marriage to Richard Kelly, Edward Deed lived at 'The Black Forest', now Black Forest, a suburb of Adelaide.They left Sth Australia for Victoria in 1855. Maryborough Hospital admission records show Edward Deed being admitted on 27 June 1864. They were probably living in Majorca as Edward's burial was held on 19th February 1875 at the Majorca cemetery, CofE Section in an unmarked grave. CofE Edward Deed travelled across country to Majorca where they discovered Deeds Reef. the workings can still be seen. further info in Deed family tree
