About Edward England
Edward England was born in 1860, in Cardiff, Wales. He was the 6th son and 9th child of John Humphrey England and his wife, Ann England (Rees).
Edward's father was the founder of England Potatoes Ltd., a company which made the family very wealthy. When Edward was 17, like most of his brothers, he joined the family business and worked alongside his father as a potato merchant for England Potatoes Ltd.
One month before the death of his father, Edward married Louisa Mary Lewis. Together they had three children: a son and two daughters. His daughter, Doris married into the aristocratic Stokes Family.
After the death of Edward's father in August 1887, Edward became the head of England Potatoes Ltd., and renamed it to Edward England Potatoes. Whilst Edward's father had the potatoes imported from just Ireland, Edward had them imported from Holland, Poland and Brittany as well - increasing sales and making Edward extremely wealthy.
In 1911, Edward was living at a 16 bedroom estate in Cardiff with his wife, children and several servants - including cooks, cleaners and butlers. World War I helped the company grow and flourish even more - the demand for potatoes rose even higher and the Englands got even wealthier.
Edward died on the 30th of August 1917, at the age of 57. In his will he left the equivalent of £3,000,000 in today's money to his son, John.
